Set.. Ouch!!

So I have completed my first week of training for the triathlon that I want to do at the end of the summer. It started off a little rocky. Went to run the Shamrock run on Sunday and was still in the car at 8am when the 5k race was to start at 8:05. as you probably guess this lady was not saying very friendly things to the parking lot attendant, in my head of course because I am passive aggressive and have accepted it. Once the car was parked I sprint to the race which luckily is only two blocks away. I was waiting until I say the sign for the 10+ minute milers and then said what the hell, I made it on time, people are going, I might as well jump in. So I decided I was a 8-9 min miler that day. So I started running and I kept running , and kept running then I walked for a block then kept running. Then I ran for most of the giant hill during mile two. Then it was downhill so I figured I might as well keep running this is the easy part. I walked for a bit then I say the finish line and said oh I might as well finish strong and ran some more. Then when I was closer I said lets turn on the after burners and finished in a full on sprint.

I looked around and realized I was not in the back, I actually finished with other people and I did not feel like I was going to die. Time for Mimosas at Mother's... no line... able to sit at the bar...what the heck how fast did i run that race???!
34mins 29 secs.
Personal Record By at least 10 mins. yeah me!!! I remember last year running this race I know I was in the 40-45 min range. and any races prior I thought 40 mins was okay for me. Now I know that the speedy mcspeedyson that won the ran probably did the whole thing in 15 mins but I am very proud of my 34mins.

So from this I was pumped to get started on my other training. I have been taking Swimming Lessons to perfect my form, I bought a new Trek 7.3 bike to get out on the road (which I rediscovered my love for biking, super fun!) and have taking to the streets in my running shoes.

Then things went down hill...

I was playing with Jackson and he was throwing his blue ball ( a new phrase that he is trying to say. super cute) at the new blinds that we just got installed. In an effort to stop the destruction I went to run in front of him and catch the ball and then I was on my back on the kitchen floor. this was one of those falls when you don't ever realized you have fallen until some extremity smacks into the floor and your are cursing up to the heavens. Feet flying, arms waving, grabbing for anything that will keep you upright type of fall. What broke my fall was was my right knee and my wrist and then I proceeded to lay on the floor saying "oww, oww, expletive, ow, expletive, expletive, ow, damn it, ow, "

now at this point Adam and Jackson have come over and if you have ever questioned when people begin to develop empathy or the ability to know when someone is hurt it is at about 15 months of age or earlier. as I am laying on the floor cursing, Jackson comes over and looks at me and bursts into terrified tears. Scared OMG what just happened to my mommy tears and demands that Adam pick him up. I try to console him by I am still on the floor in pain, he is crying and Adam is like what in the hell just happened here. After I get up and start moving around like normal Jackson comes over and gives me a hug and we start playing again like normal.

The take away that Adam and I came up with after this is that some things aren't taught they are just in us as human beings. We never taught Jackson to feel an emotion when someone falls but he sure did we he saw me hit the floor. it also made us sad to think about the other 15 month olds who see far worse things happen to their parents on a daily basis and what kind of long term effects that has on a person.

After my little episode I continue training with 2 bruised up knees and a sore wrist but other than that things are okay. Bike is going okay, Swimming is good, then I go for my long run on Sunday. Being a Suburban Mom I place Jackson in the BOB stroller we head out the door, about 10 minutes from the house I am talking to Jackson and then I twist my ankle on a curb. WTF!!!! that is what went through my head along with some other things. I have to stop and stretch out my ankle to see if I can keep going, feels okay so we continue to the park. We get there and play and Jackson goes down the slide and then the big gray rain cloud that has been hovering starts giving us a shower. Damnit!! I throw (well placed) Jackson in the stroller and head toward a picinic area and try to wait it out. It does not stop. Play date ruined, run semi ruined, and now stuck 15 mins away from the house in the rain. At this point I say it cant get any worse so I bundle up the kid through a blanket over the stroller and run my tushy back to the house. almost home and then knee and ankle begin to hurt real bad and I have to slow progress down to a slow hobble. Finally get home unload on husband, go take a shower and vow never to workout again (until today of course)

So as simple as you might think training is I have had an eventful week hopefully this week proves a little less dramatic.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://lifewiththemorris.blogspot.com/2010/03/ready-set-ouch.html' title='Ready... I have been making an effort to keep all the unneeded chemicals out of my life for a while but I never wanted to mess with what i knew about my hair. But since I was looking for yet another new hairstyle I said "hey why don't I find out what my hair is like without any relaxer". I was stressing about the decision for a couple days and then my husband with all his wisdom said "if you don't like it you can always get it relaxed again" ahhh so simple and true. So 4 months in I have a bunch of nappy curlies coming out of my head and ton of new hair products (I really like to shop for anything!) I will post pics when it gets interesting!

4) complete a Triathlon - whoa!!! Say what!, Yes I will be training for my first tri this year. Totally intimidated but I think I can do it:-)

July 31st is the All Womens Tri at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Bluelake Park this summer and I have chosen this to be the place that I might die! 1/2 Mile swim, 12 mile Bike ride, 3.2 mile run. and before you ask, yes I am doing this for fun. I know CRAZY!! The good thing is that I actually have quite a few friends that do these on a regular basis and they don't die afterward so I am using that as inspiration.

It does feel good to start the year with some goals though, hopefully this will keep me in the gym and working out because I kinda like what is going on. who knew working out on a regular basis could help your jeans fit better. I should right a book or something about that.

Little man is growing up soooo fast! He is walking almost running around the house everyday getting into things and terrorizing Nala. He tries to pick her up and hug her sometimes but it does not really work since he can barely keep himself upright. He is turning into quite the communicator though. He has his "eat" and "more" signs down and his favorite words are "hot", "up" and "DAHHH!!". As with every other family on the first sunny day of the year we headed out to the zoo. For some reason we thought it would not be crowed! boy were we wrong. no parking, long line to get in and for any type of food. But all in all it was a great day. Jackson loved people watching and looking at the animals when he was not napping. we will absolutely be headed back many times this summer.Jackson has started eating solid foods and so far he likes his rice cereal, is okay with apple sauce and loves the pureed peas mommy made for him last night. February was spent moving into our new house which we love. The packing, move, and unpacking have take up much of our time over the past month and I am so happy we are done. I am never moving again. People will have to come drag me out of this house. Jackson in the mean time has grown up and it makes me sad! he has turned into a little man and not a crying newborn. He always has lots of smiles and loves to talk to anyone that wants to start a conversation. although very demanding when he is hungry or sleepy other than that he might be the best kid in the world. but I am his mom so I have to say that. Here are some pics that show how much he has grown.

1 Day old

1 month

2 months

3 months

He is getting very good at lifting up his head and he loves to look around and find out what is going on around him. I am teaching him to kick in the bath tub which I am sure I will regret later but he gets so excited when he does it. the next thing is "splash" once he gets coordinated with his hands. I started back to work this week which has been nice to come back to the real world although I miss Jackson much more than I thought I would. the good thing is that his daycare is only a 5-10 min drive from the house so I can stop in whenever I need a baby fix. I want to say life is starting to get back to normal again. whatever normal means anymore. so many changes have happened in the last year I cant remember anything but what we are doing now. My next project is planning some vacations since i don't think we have been on one for quite some time so I am off to the Internet for some ideas!

1 month and counting

hi everyone, we have reached the one month mark with little Jackson in our lives and here are somethings that have changed:

i now dress according to whether or not it is easy to wash if it happens to get milk or throw up on it.

there is excessive cheering for poops, burps, and farts. (there was some cheering before only if they were really good ones)

getting ready to leave the house takes about 1.5 hours (start to finish for Jackson and I. I timed it yesterday)

sleeping for four hours in your own bed is amazing! kicks sleeping upright on the couches ass!

you learn that you love to kiss baby cheeks excessivly

you turn into a grooming monkey.lots of wiping, picking, and inspecting, especially under those double chins.

i can type with one hand now!

so far Jackson has been great. we have our off days for sure but we are still getting to know each other. things that used to stress us out before are not that serious now. his one month birthday happens to be my 29th birhtday and his present to me was a big spit up on my shirt. I am not mad though he does not have a way to get to the store that was all he could give:-)

In addition to having this new person in our lives we just bought a new house and will be moving again. I think moving 3 times in 5 Months is my limit. so hopefully we will be in this house until I am old and cranky.

For your viewing pleasure here is Jackson at birth and at one month.

One Day Old

One Month

he has changed so much already it makes me sad!!

He's Here!!!

After what seems a long time waiting Jackson Wesley Morris has finally made his entrance to the world. Here is a run down of the events this week.

On Monday morning at about 4 am I started having some pretty intense contractions but not knowing if they were real or not I called the nurses hotline and since I have a doc appt at 9:30 that morning they told me to wait it out until I could see my doctor.

at the appointment my doc said I was 2.5-3cm dialated but had not started really labor yet and it could happen today or a couple days from now. so Adam and I went back home got some lunch and then stuff started to happen. contractions started happening rapidly and Adam made the executive decision to head back to the hospital. by noon i was admitted, 6cm dialated and requesting an epidural, stat. natural birth be damned!!by the time the epidural kicked in around 4pm we were just waiting for my water to break, which it never did. after some assistance from the doc and about 30-45 mins of pushing Jackson was born at 8:45pm Dec 8th 2008. (one month to the day before my birthday which is kind of cool.) here are his stats

Jackson Wesley Morris

12/8/08

7lbs 12 oz

20 inches

cutest baby in the world (really it is official, i checked)

checkout the following links to view see some more pics!!

http://www.our365.com/NewbornPortraits/BabyDetail.aspx?birthid=454262c9-0bc0-4af7-97cc-0ed28e90d47e

waiting...

well we are in the last weeks of being pregnant and overall it has been pretty good. I have only felt really pregnant the past couple weeks. I have got a good waddle going on and I cant reach my feet but that makes a great excuse to go get a pedicure which I did last week. Fantastic!

Jackson's due date is on Friday and we are basically just sitting around waiting for things to get started. both Adam and I think he is going to come tomorrow (Sunday) but that may just be wishful thinking. But as of my last doctors appointment on Wednesday I was 2cm dilated and 90% effaced so something is going on and I did not even feel it! I am really excited to meet this little person who has been trying to bust out through my belly button for the last couple months. we have spent so much time talking about him and preparing for his arrival and we dont even know him yet. it is going to be an experience actually begin able to hold and snuggle him. and of course pinch those little chubby cheeks we already know he has.

Well next update we should have some pics of our little boy!!! Wish us luck!!

Life

well as we go along our little journey of doing all major life changes in the same 4 months we took a moment to pause and be thankful for what we do have. I admit I was become a negative nelly and was getting really annoyed that we have not sold our house yet and the clock is ticking on when Jackson is going to make his big debut. but this weekend while I was having a slight breakdown about wanting a bigger apartment for the time being and needing my own stuff we realized that we are really lucky that we are able to make all of these adjustments in our life and they are more of an inconvenience and annoyance than a tragic event. really this whole process is a good thing. we got to move back home at a time when we really want our family and friends to be close, we both got to keep our jobs and other than a few bumps along the way things have gone rather smoothly.
usually with big changes I find all of the reasons "why not" "or "cant because" first knowing full well all the positives that are out there. Adam, luckily, is the other half of this equation. "big change??Okay!! everything is sunshine and roses so lets do it!" so on some level we get each other to the middle ground of " this is the sucky stuff but here is how we can fix that and get to the fun stuff"
anyway my whole point is that change is kind of like a pair of jeans. You have to have them, sometimes you go through some uncomfortable ones that you swore were going to change your life for the better in every way but you were in one of those stores with the damned skinny circus mirrors, but other times you're not sure about it in the beginning but you buy it anyway and it turns into one of your favorite pairs.
I love bringing things back to shopping!!

Baby Update:
I am currently in my 32nd week and for those who have not been around pregnant people or are not doctors that means I have 8 weeks to go! Ekk!! Starting to freak out a bit but it is a good freakout.we are just excited to meet this little person we have been talking about and to for the past 7 months. We had another ultrasound last week to check and see how big he was because I am measuring a couple weeks bigger than I should but he is right where he should be at about 3lbs 3oz. I just have a short torso apparently. we also wanted them just to double check that he was a boy just in case the first one was incorrect but no worries he is DEFINITELY a boy. I even could tell and i am not a professional. Adam was very proud:-)
we have a few pics that we will scan and post soon. there are a couple that are so cute he had one little hand on his belly the whole time and the other scrunched up under his chubby little cheek. Yes he does have chubby cheeks already! so cute!! there is also a pic of his giant foot preparing to kick me right in the side! he is so grounded for that when he comes out. other than that news there is nothing else happening just a lot a prep and me folding and refolding his clothes.

Over it...

Can I just say that I am over pretty much everything right now. Well minus the changing of the drivers licenses, car tabs, and voting registration, physically we are residents of Oregon. I must say it is much easier to move back to a city that you have already lived in, I already know where all the good bars are! Even though I cant get anything fun and alcoholic at them! I have taken over the dining room table as my office and the living room couch has become the dining area, so it just feels like we are back in college a little bit. but i don't think that Adam or Nala mind much

It is amazing the things that you miss when all of your stuff is in storage. I never knew you could live a piece of cookware but i love my cookie sheet. you can cook anything you like on it and it always makes things nice and brown and crispy. so frustrating!! the idea of a fully furnished apartment obviously does not take into account someone who likes to cook. i know requesting a kitchen aid mixer might be a bit much but at least give me a decent chefs knife!

as far as the move goes we have done as much as we can, now it is a waiting game to see when our house sells. it is a constant ticking clock in my head because I would love to be in a new house by thanksgiving but at this rate just a bigger apartment would do! But there is no sense in worrying about it because it does nothing to help the situation. That has been my mantra over the past couple weeks and so far it has kept me from having a complete meltdown.

Baby update!
Jackson is right on schedule and my belly is steadily getting bigger. It feels like every morning there is more of it and it is a little shocking. Sitting up in a chair is starting to become difficult and uncomfortable for long periods of time so there has been lots of pacing around the apartment or going for walks. Adam has caught me in some strange positions on the floor over the past couple days and I tell him that sometimes you just have to spread out on the floor in order to get comfortable. I am totally lucking that it is football season so it is not too strange for me to be laying on the couch all day with food balancing on my belly. i can blame it on the football not being unable to sit up straight:-)

but we are about 11 weeks from go time. I know, it is starting to go crazy fast. I helps that I have been distracted by the move the past month or so but now everything is going to start happening really fast now. we have our first baby class in a few weeks and then it is getting everything prepared. i have heard stories about babies being a month early and after I past the 25th week my friend told me that at this point he could come at any time and be okay. I promptly told Jackson that his mother is very calendar oriented and I have things planned around his arrival of 12/12/08. now I understand that some things happen and he may have to change his plans for a few weeks before or after but to come any sooner than that is just not good manners and it is never to early to practice good manners. so hopefully we have come to an agreement that he wont try to surprise me.

Random...

Okay so here is the deal, I am no good at updating or looking at social networking websites. Facebook, Myspace etc, I have accounts on all of them but I think I checked the myspace page for the first time in about a year today. Guess what it is... come on just take a wild guess. well I will eliminate some things for you. No we are not sheding all our worldly possesions to experience life as cross country backpackers. that would only be fun for about a week. No Adam is not going to try out for the NFL even though he is pretty sure he would be a fantastic quarterback. and finally no we are not selling our bodies to science for research.

Did you guess?? Well I will stop torturing you. We are moving back to Portland!!! we always knew we would be heading back just not at the same time that we were having a baby. Timing is everything right!
Adam finally recieved the promotion he was waiting for and is now the Portland Sales Manager. he first day is actually on monday and he moved down to our temporary apartment today. I will be moving down mid september and hopefuly shortly after that we will have a new home down in Portland. Now as most of you know I am a big planner and I had things planned out until next march needless to say everything has had to be changed but so far so good. a little stressful but we have divided and counquered all the tasks that we need to do so now we just need to sell our house, get a new one and have a baby in the next 4 months. Easy Peasy!!

anyway we will keep you up to date about our next adventure until then, See you in Portland!!!

Its a...

BOY!!!
after a canceled appointment yesterday and a surprise phone call this morning we were finally able to go take a look at our little lima bean to see if it sprouted into a boy or a girl. Of course I started to cry which I did not think I was going to do so that was a little surprising.
The top picture is the tell all shot if you can see where the little arrow is pointing then stop looking at my sons goods!! :-)

I must say that we have a very well behaved little boy already. he was very responsive to the ultra sound tech and turned when she asked. and on que I really started to feel him kicking around last night, enough so that you can feel it from the out side if he is in the right position. we are so excited that in 20 weeks (yes I am half way done!) we will welcome little Jackson Welsey to the world.

Now begins the fun stuff, there are tons of little outfits that I saw at babys r us over the weekend that I now must go and buy. and there are little seahawks jerseys that also must be purchased. this will keep me occupied in the next couple months preparing so the mall better watch out, mom on the loose!

the Belly is a growin'

well we are going into our 15th week and nothing really is happening. the biggest change is that my regular pants are starting not to fit. which I have to remember it is the baby not me just porking out!

I did a little shopping for maternity clothes and found them quite comfortable but not quite ready for them yet and then I remembered all these ads that I saw for these things called Bella Bands. they are basically an elastic-y fabric (much like a camisole) that you wear over your unbuttoned pants that keep them up. Adam and I went to a maternity store that was selling them and I have not gone a day with out wearing them since. it is fantastic! all my pants fit everywhere else but in the waist so it seemed like a waste to buy a whole new pant wardrobe so early ( I know it is strange me not wanting to buy clothes but I am trying to save a big shopping spree until I am bigger, then watch out!) but with these little things I have my pants all unbuttoned and no one knows, until now, since I just published that on the internet!.

the day we went shopping it happened to be fathers day so I treated Adam to a lunch on his first unofficial father's day. then we taunted our selves by going into potterybarn kids. I wanted to buy everything in the store, it was all so cute!! there was a little dog and a baby boy in the store and I wanted to pick them both up and run out of the store. I cant handle that much cuteness in the same area.

Last Friday we had our second appt with my Doc and it was very uneventful. I wanted to do the ultrasound again so I could again get visual confirmation that this was actually happening but we got the next best thing, we got to hear the heartbeat again. so who ever it is in there, they are still in there pumping away. Dr. Russell made a prediction on the sex, she said that because it did not try to run away and sat very still while we were listening to the heartbeat that her prediction was that it was a girl. which for some reason was news to me. I have been under the assumption that it was a boy the entire time and was shocked that there is a possibility that it could be a girl. I don't know why but I just assumed it was a boy so this possibility kind of rock us over the weekend. I think we were so focused on picking a boys name that we just went with that. Now we have a whole list of girls names to narrow down. Adam has already decided that any little girl of his is going to wear dresses, have tea parties, and be very polite. If our children are anything like us we are going to get some stubborn little people and if they don't want to wear a dress they are not going to!

Anniversary Weekend

This last weekend Adam & I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary. Wahoo! to stick with tradition we took the long memorial day weekend as a mini vacation up to the Sun Mountain Lodge just outside Winthrop, Wa. It was great! we were out in the middle of nowhere washington at a fantastic resort. as tradition also dictates the first few hours there were spent napping which is officially my favorite thing to do, followed closely by eating.

On Saturday we explored the town of Winthrop a bit. we ate breakfast at a place called the Duck Brand, which came highly recommend by our friends Chris & Melanie. the great thing was I got 2 giant blueberry pancakes for $4. you cant beat that. I thought I was full after that but then we say the sweet shop and they had just pulled fresh cinnamon rolls out of the oven so I had to get one of those as well. so good!! luckily after all of this eating we went on a hike around the resort which was very pretty. at the end of the trail we were on there were a couple young deer that I did not want to mess with so we waited a few minutes to pass until they moved on. You never know if there are angry deer so I did not want to chance it. The highlight of the day was our anniversary spa treatments. 3 hours in a spa will do wonders for anybody! I would be happy to do that again right now!

On Sunday we went on a Cowboy Dinner. We saddled up some horses at the stables and then followed in a line to an old homestead that is on the resort property where they had a surprising delicious BBQ dinner ready for use. The highlight was the baked beans, so good. turns out it is a secret recipe of on of the cowboys and it is very well protected. Adam's horse was Herbie and he was bothering my horse Dot. Herbie kept on getting into Dots business,if you know what I mean, and Dot was not having any of it. So Dot and I had to have some words with the boys. But over all this was a great why to end our weekend the weather was great and on the way back to the stables there was a great little rainbow in the distance. to make it all the better the minute we got back to our room there was a big rain storm that lasted the rest of the night. All in all is was a great relaxing weekend.

Baby Update: I am 12 weeks along now closing in on the Second Trimester and nothing has really changed other than some of my pants don't fit unless I have the top button undone. So if you see me walking around pulling up my pants that is why :-) I have also increased my love of elastic waist pants, namely my workout pants or pajamas. When I feel I have to wear those all the time in public I know that it is time to go to the maternity store and get some real pants.

according to different sources the baby is about the size of a lime or an egg now. I swear I feel some kicking around in there every once in awhile but everything I have ready says that it is a little early for that. It might just be gas:-) I think I might be one of the lucky few who do not get morning sickness (score!) The biggest things to come up so far is revisiting puberty with pimples. Everyday a new little vistor on my face. I am a grown women for goodness sake! but that seems to be clearing up. I also get more headaches than I have ever gotten which sucks but nothing that I can work through at the moment.

We have our next Doc appt in a couple weeks so hopefully we will have some fun information.

Big News!

This is my first attempt a blogging so just go with me on this! Well, if you are at this site then you have probably received the news that we are expecting a new addition to our family. We are so excited and thrilled at the prospect of having a little someone running around our house that we can hardly wait until December. So if you don't know here are all the vital details:

As of today I am 10 weeks into this 40 week process. it has gone by surprisingly fast and slow at the same time, it is very strange. No real horrible pregnancy side effects. Actually I am tired all the time but that has turned into a blessing in disguise, I can fall asleep pretty much anywhere I want now! before it would take me about 45 mins to fall asleep now I am out before I hit the pillow. Does not really help when I am at work but if you angle yourself right nobody knows that you have dozed off. you just look very involved in the worksheet you are looking at. very busy, cant be disturbed.

There is only 1 baby!!! Wahoo!!! both Adam and I have twins that run in our families and were really not excited about the prospect of having both of our planned children at the same time. and neither was my waistline!

we had our first ultrasound on Friday and that was amazing! I have been in a mild state of denial for the past month or so because I have not had any terrible symptoms of early pregnancy yet so I kept thinking the 5 home pregnancy tests and the 1 I made the nurse give me at the doctors office were all faulty and someone was going to tell me that it was all a joke. But then on that little screen was a little head with two arms and two legs floating around and I figured that the ultrasound machine could not be faulty as well. the doc seemed pretty sure I was pregnant so I guess it is true. I think we might have a showmen on our hands because when he was on screen he did a little dance and waved so he likes to have the attention already.

Yes, we will find out if it is a boy or a girl, but we won't know until the end of July. there will be some serious decorating going on after that so if your free come on up.

And finally the big one, we will have a baby by Christmas. Currently the due date is 12/12/08. If I don't have a baby by Christmas there will be one uncomfortable, angry mommy on Adam's hands so do feel sorry for him later. Most important thing is I still get a full Seahawks season in and they have really cute baby onesies at the pro shop.

Anyhoo, that is all I have for right now. I will try to keep everyone up to date on any additional news but for right now I am going to go take another nap!
