Ready... Set.. Ouch!!

So I have completed my first week of training for the triathlon that I want to do at the end of the summer. It started off a little rocky. Went to run the Shamrock run on Sunday and was still in the car at 8am when the 5k race was to start at 8:05. as you probably guess this lady was not saying very friendly things to the parking lot attendant, in my head of course because I am passive aggressive and have accepted it. Once the car was parked I sprint to the race which luckily is only two blocks away. I was waiting until I say the sign for the 10+ minute milers and then said what the hell, I made it on time, people are going, I might as well jump in. So I decided I was a 8-9 min miler that day. So I started running and I kept running , and kept running then I walked for a block then kept running. Then I ran for most of the giant hill during mile two. Then it was downhill so I figured I might as well keep running this is the easy part. I walked for a bit then I say the finish line and said oh I might as well finish strong and ran some more. Then when I was closer I said lets turn on the after burners and finished in a full on sprint.

I looked around and realized I was not in the back, I actually finished with other people and I did not feel like I was going to die. Time for Mimosas at Mother's... no line... able to sit at the bar...what the heck how fast did i run that race???!
34mins 29 secs.
Personal Record By at least 10 mins. yeah me!!! I remember last year running this race I know I was in the 40-45 min range. and any races prior I thought 40 mins was okay for me. Now I know that the speedy mcspeedyson that won the ran probably did the whole thing in 15 mins but I am very proud of my 34mins.

So from this I was pumped to get started on my other training. I have been taking Swimming Lessons to perfect my form, I bought a new Trek 7.3 bike to get out on the road (which I rediscovered my love for biking, super fun!) and have taking to the streets in my running shoes.

Then things went down hill...

I was playing with Jackson and he was throwing his blue ball ( a new phrase that he is trying to say. super cute) at the new blinds that we just got installed. In an effort to stop the destruction I went to run in front of him and catch the ball and then I was on my back on the kitchen floor. this was one of those falls when you don't ever realized you have fallen until some extremity smacks into the floor and your are cursing up to the heavens. Feet flying, arms waving, grabbing for anything that will keep you upright type of fall. What broke my fall was was my right knee and my wrist and then I proceeded to lay on the floor saying "oww, oww, expletive, ow, expletive, expletive, ow, damn it, ow, "

now at this point Adam and Jackson have come over and if you have ever questioned when people begin to develop empathy or the ability to know when someone is hurt it is at about 15 months of age or earlier. as I am laying on the floor cursing, Jackson comes over and looks at me and bursts into terrified tears. Scared OMG what just happened to my mommy tears and demands that Adam pick him up. I try to console him by I am still on the floor in pain, he is crying and Adam is like what in the hell just happened here. After I get up and start moving around like normal Jackson comes over and gives me a hug and we start playing again like normal.

The take away that Adam and I came up with after this is that some things aren't taught they are just in us as human beings. We never taught Jackson to feel an emotion when someone falls but he sure did we he saw me hit the floor. it also made us sad to think about the other 15 month olds who see far worse things happen to their parents on a daily basis and what kind of long term effects that has on a person.

After my little episode I continue training with 2 bruised up knees and a sore wrist but other than that things are okay. Bike is going okay, Swimming is good, then I go for my long run on Sunday. Being a Suburban Mom I place Jackson in the BOB stroller we head out the door, about 10 minutes from the house I am talking to Jackson and then I twist my ankle on a curb. WTF!!!! that is what went through my head along with some other things. I have to stop and stretch out my ankle to see if I can keep going, feels okay so we continue to the park. We get there and play and Jackson goes down the slide and then the big gray rain cloud that has been hovering starts giving us a shower. Damnit!! I throw (well placed) Jackson in the stroller and head toward a picinic area and try to wait it out. It does not stop. Play date ruined, run semi ruined, and now stuck 15 mins away from the house in the rain. At this point I say it cant get any worse so I bundle up the kid through a blanket over the stroller and run my tushy back to the house. almost home and then knee and ankle begin to hurt real bad and I have to slow progress down to a slow hobble. Finally get home unload on husband, go take a shower and vow never to workout again (until today of course)

So as simple as you might think training is I have had an eventful week hopefully this week proves a little less dramatic.

New Year!

So it is officially 2010 and there are resolutions to be made and possibly completed.

1)have a kick ass 30th birthday party with friends, family and Karaoke- Check

2)realize that my son is a rockstar at restaurants- Check

3) Grow out my natural hair and see what happens- after watching Oprah (yes I know I still watch it sometimes and I love it so sue me!) when Chris Rock was touting his "Good Hair" movie I realized I have had my hair chemically relaxed for 18 years! I have been making an effort to keep all the unneeded chemicals out of my life for a while but I never wanted to mess with what i knew about my hair. But since I was looking for yet another new hairstyle I said "hey why don't I find out what my hair is like without any relaxer". I was stressing about the decision for a couple days and then my husband with all his wisdom said "if you don't like it you can always get it relaxed again" ahhh so simple and true. So 4 months in I have a bunch of nappy curlies coming out of my head and ton of new hair products (I really like to shop for anything!) I will post pics when it gets interesting!

4) complete a Triathlon - whoa!!! Say what!, Yes I will be training for my first tri this year. Totally intimidated but I think I can do it:-)

July 31st is the All Womens Tri at Bluelake Park this summer and I have chosen this to be the place that I might die! 1/2 Mile swim, 12 mile Bike ride, 3.2 mile run. and before you ask, yes I am doing this for fun. I know CRAZY!! The good thing is that I actually have quite a few friends that do these on a regular basis and they don't die afterward so I am using that as inspiration.

It does feel good to start the year with some goals though, hopefully this will keep me in the gym and working out because I kinda like what is going on. who knew working out on a regular basis could help your jeans fit better. I should right a book or something about that.

Little man is growing up soooo fast! He is walking almost running around the house everyday getting into things and terrorizing Nala. He tries to pick her up and hug her sometimes but it does not really work since he can barely keep himself upright. He is turning into quite the communicator though. He has his "eat" and "more" signs down and his favorite words are "hot", "up" and "DAHHH!!". Hot and up are used for almost everything but daahhh is reserved for the knocking over of blocks in a very Godzilla trashes Tokyo fashion. I don't know where he got this from but it is hilarious. it sends me into fits of laughter very time he does it then it fuels the fire

Family Events

Since I am bad at updating I am doing a string! Here are some fun things that have happened over the past months!

Look who Turned 30!

Oh yeah, so did I! this was pre-shenanigans

Christmas Tree Hunting!!! Sooo cold

okay so there is this game called Quelf (yes quelf you sickos) and this is the kind of stuff that happens when you play. enough said, super fun!

I really have no explanation for this. Lets just say mama had the night off, J was at grandma's and I was in the Christmas spirit, literally.

1st Hair Cut

So the day after Jackson's 1st birthday I decided that it might be time for his first hair cut. His little curly Mohawk was getting a little crazy so we took him to a kids hair salon a few minutes from our house. Here is the progression

This place is awesome, i get to sit in a car and watch Mickey mouse with a cape on. this totally rocks. Who is that lady with the spray bottle coming at me??

well i don't really appreciate some stranger touching my head. She could have asked permission or something. a hello, candy, something. Now what are those shinny sharp things that she has in her hand, can I play with them?

Seriously! what kind of torture chamber did you people bring me too??!! if those damned sharp shiny things weren't enough (which I did not get to play with thank you very much) then you have to bring out the buzzer crazy head chopper!! I have never experienced such horrible service, again no candy no nothing! And mom and dad you guys are not helping the situation just standing around taking pictures and smiling. You obviously have not realized the severity of the situation! I have a grievance!!!!
Well, I would have to say that I handled that like a champ and look at how stylish I am new hair and all. I did finaly get a snack but I did have to create quite the raucous.
